About this deal

Very chic, Opium creates the addiction, having a special refinement typical of france perfumery, the transition from one note to another being done smoothly. More sweet and enveloping and ultra long-lasting (specially the older version in that great blue bottle) but less fresh. opium, though, is powdery, and doesn't have such a hefty midsection (azzaro misses the hefty midsection as well, it just feels empty compared to rive gauche). In any case Opium pour Homme is pleasantly intoxicating in its own right: opens with an effervescent fruity note (that I would never have identified as blackcurrant) paired with a subtle anise (reminds me of watered absinth), wonderfully different to a more traditional citrus or bergamot overture, and evolves to become a wonderfully creamy ambery vanilla with a soft spicy aspect. Much different from the opulent, spicy Oriental, femm-marketed YSL Opium of 1977, which is closer to Aramis JHL (not to mention Youth Dew and Cinnabar) than it is to it's masculine version Opium Pour Homme.

After that disaster, all that chaos fades into a somewhat nice vanilla but it still tries to cling a bit to that wretched opening with the occasional whiff of gross mixed with vanilla.Only reviews that feature the label "Verified Review" have been checked to ensure that the author actually used or purchased the product. I'm not a fan of powdery fragrances as I tend to find them very cloying, with that said, the powdery vibe in OpH is well done. Both perfumes are pretty much unisex, but due to the fruity black current note, OPH for me leans a bit more feminine out of the two.

Sometimes I think they, the perfume manufacturers, must have to get their (raw) materials from the same places, 'cause the "flaws" are almost identical in the reformulated classics. At this point the fragrance is so airy and light (I prefer the EDT to be honest) and the table is set for the balsam and cedar to give Opium a little added muscle to it's finish. This fragrance is a change of pace but it lacks richness and i can blindly blame its reformulation for that.Maybe if you are only familiar with the very synthetic fragrances of today it will be difficult to love, but it is still a masterpiece. and I honestly wondered if I had a fake since my bottle and experience were both so very different from what I've read. My husband and I were going through boxes that had been packed away for years and he pulled this gem out, an older bottle, completely full. The star anise in the opening and the pepper give it some spicyness, tilting the balance towards to the masculine side. Opium pour homme is for lovers of classics and correct orientals, not clichéd, bombastic orientals, full of tonka and unjustified ouds.

This fragrance owes its warm, spicy radiance to tolu balsam, anise, and Sichuan pepper, creating the embodiment of a stellar Oriental Spicy.

Without going much into details I am gonna tell you that you could be happy with the latest formulations if you've never tried the old ones. The sillage and longevity are quite moderate, but I assure you that every one close enought will notify you when wearing this masterpiece. Sadly Opium pour Homme smells nothing like real opium, which is resinous, slightly woody and vaguely reminiscent of myrrh.

E' freddo, pungente e poco socievole, a differenza di Opium 1977 che sta benissimo anche sugli uomini e sicuramente è caldo, avvolgente e ardente,e lo adoro. Long story short, I got it home today and according to the batch code it was made in October of 2023. Opium pour Homme in it's current state seems of higher quality than much of the other stuff I've tried in recent times! It's one of those that makes you go back to it again and again to try to figure out what it is you're smelling. In my opinion, Opium is the predecessor of La Nuit de L'homme and in many ways, does a better job at capturing the essence of nights spent with a new love interest or significant other.
